Stone Lions and Other Elaborate Paraphernalia
Archways upon archways tower into the gloom. Stone lions are carved into
the walls in high relief, three times life size. Statues commemorate
military victories and the enslavement of defeated armies. All around
are lanterns, spiked beams, and hanging ropes and chains. Shadowy
figures scurry in distant corners, dwarfed by the immensity of the
architecture.
